Fogarty- Ellison Overseas Fellowships in Global Health and Clinical Research

Fields of Study Dentistry, Health administration, Health care/hospitals, Health sciences, Health/health education, NursingEmphasis On: Graduate-level U.S. students in the health professions.

Average Amount per Award: $18,000-$20,000 Award Includes: Travel Expenses, Living Expenses, Housing, Health Insurance, Stipend Award Also Includes: Additional $6,000 per year for travel, insurance, and educational materials.

Advanced standing in a U.S. medical (M3) or osteopathic school; or enrollment in a doctoral-level program at a U.S.

Procedure: All completed applications received by the January deadline will be reviewed by a committee established by the AAMC and ASPH. Approximately 50 finalists will be invited to visit NIH in early March for 2 days of interviews and s meeting with members of the steering committee and representatives from the foreign training sites. At the conclusion of that meeting, candidates and programs will list their preferences and the steering committee will make assignments of the successful candidates to the sites. The "final decision" date will be coordinated with the domestic student research programs (Howard Hughes, Doris Duke, NIH Clinical Research Program) so that students considering more than 1 option will know the full menu of their opportunities. Applicants on the waiting list will receive a final notification by the end of March.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study

Emphasis On: Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for study of the principal modern languages of East and Southeast Asia such as: Chinese, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Japanese, Indonesian, Thai, Korean, Khmer, Burmese, and Malaysian. Consideration will be given to other East or Southeast Asian languages on an individual basis. Grants will not be made for the study of Asian languages not in current use.

Eligibility
Citizens of and residents in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, the People’sRepublic of China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, theRepublic of Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore,South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Master’s/Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training and experiences(minimum of 3 years of university teaching experiences for scholars or 5 years ofwork experience for professionals.)Applicants must be 45 years old or younger at the time of the applicationdeadline. However, those up to 50 years old proposing to do research in the fieldof Humanities may be given special consideration.Proficiency in English or in the language of the host country appropriate to theproposed research project.Those who are currently enrolled in a degree program, or have just completed adegree program for less than one to two years will not be eligible to apply. Thosewho were a recipient of a Ford Foundation fellowship grant within the last twoyears prior to the application is also ineligible.

Conditions of the awards
The proposed research projects for the ASIA Fellows Awards can be carried out inonly one participating country (except the applicant’s own) and under thefollowing conditions:
o No applicant can propose to conduct their research in Hong Kong, Japan,Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
o Applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singaporecannot undertake research in each other’s countries.
o Applicants from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan can onlyapply to conduct their research in Thailand, the host country of ASF.

Any part of the proposed project that will be done in the applicant’s own countrywill not be funded under the ASIA Fellows Awards.The proposed grant period must be between 6-9 months. Once awarded, a fellowis required to conduct research at the proposed host country throughout the grantperiod. Splitting of the grant period or conducting research in the applicant’s owncountry during the proposed grant period is not allowed under any circumstances.While an applicant from South or Southeast Asia may propose a research projectin a country within his/her own region, preference is given to applicants whopropose to conduct research in a region of Asia other than their own (e.g., anaward to an Indian scholar or professional for research in China).Applicants should not plan to conduct their research in a country with which theirhome country has a difficult diplomatic relationship because of the uncertaintiesof securing an affiliation and obtaining a research clearance and visa for a longtermstay.Fellowship awards are not for the purpose of completing requirements towards anacademic degree (master’s thesis or doctoral dissertations).

Fellowship Activities
ASIA Fellows awardees are placed at top-ranking research universities and non-academicinstitutions such as museums, archives or think tanks. Fellows should identify preferredplacements in host countries. They may engage in an organized field research in the hostcountry. Fellows are strongly encouraged to undertake some language training in theirhost country as part of facilitating their research. They are also provided the opportunitiesto present guest lectures, or to conduct seminars and workshops at the invitation of thehost institutions. After completion of their fellowship, fellows can apply for postfellowshipawards of three months to further their research in a country within Asia, orfor short-term travel awards to make presentations at overseas conferences and meetings.
All fellows are required to attend the Orientation Program in July 2008, and the ASIAFellows’ Annual Conference in July 2010 at which they present their research results tofellow awardees and to scholars from the country in which the conference is held. Theyare also required to start the award by the end of December 2008. At the end of thefellowship, fellows must submit to the ASF office in Bangkok evidence of the results oftheir research project in the form of publications, photos of artistic works, audio/videoproductions, etc.

Selection Process
Regional review committees composed of leading scholars from participating countriesand regions conduct an initial review of the applications. In mid-March, short-listedcandidates are interviewed by the review committee for their region at meetings inBeijing, New Delhi, and Bangkok. (The Asian Scholarship Foundation covers the travelexpenses of short-listed candidates.) The applications of recommended candidates arethen forwarded to the multi-regional Board Management Committee which will make thefinal selection of ASIA Fellows Awards recipients by the end of May 2008.

Scholarship in Japan : 2008 Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF)

Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF) 2008 Program aims to nurture human networking among ASEAN countries, Bangladesh and Japan.The AYF preparatory course before entering Japanese Graduate School as Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship student is offered by The Japan Foundation. AYF program is open to university graduates in the region who wish to contribute to regional cooperation after obtaining a Master and/or Ph. D. Degree in Japanese Graduate Schools as follows:1. Features of the Asian Youth Fellowship ProgramAYF consists of the following component:q Coordination of a host professor and research plan development during the preparatory course in Japanq Preparatory course (Japanese Language and cultural activities)q Follow ups after completing the preparatory courseThe scholarship grantees shall receive a preparatory course in the Japanese language for approximately 7 months, at The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai, Japan. The preparatory course is developed for people who have never learned Japanese language before. Grantees are provided with dormitory. Accompanying family is NOT allowed during the preparatory course.*After completing the preparatory course, grantees will be proceeding to Japanese graduate schools as Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship students (principally Research Student) from April 2009.2. Field of Studyq Any of the fields in Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering and Natural Science is acceptable..q Students pursuing study areas that would contribute to his/her country or region will be given preference.* Technical training course is excluded.3. After completing the AYF Program, grantees will proceed to Japanese universities as the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship students. Allowances, accommodations, and other status are subject to Monbukagakusho’s regulations.5. Selection(1) Japanese diplomatic missions concerned, in cooperation with the foreign governments concerned, will select preliminary candidates from among applicants by means of a review of the documents submitted.(2) Those who have been selected as the preliminary candidates will be recommended to Asian Youth Fellowship Committee, Tokyo, Japan. The Committee will select grantees from among the preliminary candidates by means of an interview made in their respective countries by a mission member assigned and dispatched by the Committee.(3) Final announcement in writing will be provided by the Embassy of Japan after the AYF Committee. The grantees of the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship for 2009 will be finally selected, on condition that they have completed the AYF preparatory course successfully, after the university placement has been made.6. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Cambodian Mekong University is interested in assisting the development of the country and society. The way that we can think of is by offering scholarships to gifted students and minorities. The priority is given the candidates from top ranking students, lower income families (must submit proof evidences), minorities from isolated areas and women. All candidates must meet the requirement of Cambodian Mekong University criteria before scholarship can be granted.To Be Eligible For:

Singapore Undergraduate ASEAN Scholarship

Nanyang Technology University ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships
The Undergraduate Scholarships for ASEAN students are offered by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for students from the Association of South East Asian Nations, or ASEAN. ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The scholarship is to finance the pursuit of an undergraduate degree on a full-time basis at NTU.
Eligibility
All nationals (citizens and permanent residents) of a member country of ASEAN (except Singapore) are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and are very competitive.
Terms and Conditions
The scholarship is tenable for the minimum period of candidature for the undergraduate degree course at NTU. It covers the tuition fee and a living allowance of $3,500 per annum. There will be no bond apart from the 3-year bond applicable to all foreign students under the Tuition Grant Scheme.
A recipient of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without the prior approval of NTU.
Application
Application for the scholarships must be submitted on the prescribed forms. This is separate and distinct from the application form for admission to NTU.

Deadline: opens from 1 February to 21 February each year. Candidates found suitable for scholarship consideration will be notified by 31 May each year. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
